Avengers Didn't Get Shot Down, They Stepped Aside

Men in Black 3
This weekend the geek world changed the proverbial channel as we took a break from seeing Avengers over and over again to make it be the largest movie of all time, and went and saw Men in Black 3. The MIB took in $203 million dollars this weekend world wide to move Marvel's premiere super hero team to slot #2. Something Battleship or Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows couldn't do.

Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin took in a small $70million here in the US in this third part to the Men in Black franchise. Other blog sites are stating that it took another comic book driven movie to topple the Avengers but true comic book fans know that is not the case. While yes Men in Black was a comic book before it was a movie, it was only 3 issues long and it was an independent book that wasn't really released wide.

The movie actually inspired more than the comic book did, a cartoon that ran for five years, more comic books based on the Smith and Jones characters, toys of course, soundtracks for the movie with songs specifically for the movie that became hits. Four different video games with the latest being in stores now and a fun ride at Universal Studios Florida.

Now with MIB in the number one slot its not a matter of it beating the Avengers, its just a matter of us comic geeks being ready to watch another movie. If you know a comic book fan don't ask them if they've seen The Avengers, ask them how many times they've seen it. Your follow up question can then be, are you going to see Men in Black? We'll say sure, that's most likely because with us comic fans our books come out monthly, so after a month of enjoying one part of our genre, we'll move on to the next issue. Men in Black is that for us, its our next issue.

To say the Avengers had an amazing run is an understatement, they set a new bar in movie history that may never be seen again and its not even over yet. But will the largest money making movie be nominated for any awards by others besides say Spike TV? Will The Avengers get some sort of Academy nod? Lord of the Rings did, it showed that a movie based off a book loved primarily by the geek community could be worthy of multiple academy awards. But will a true comic book movie be allowed to get there or is that award ceremony to far gone. There was a time when Disney films were nominated for Best Picture, but it seems even they have been pushed more towards only being in the animated film portion of the show and now only artsy films can be true contenders.

Regardless of any gold statue the public has spoken, and if The Avengers isn't acknowledged in a major award ceremony it just further shows how useless those awards are, they don't represent what the movie going community likes.

I have yet to see Men in Black three yet, but plan on seeing it this coming weekend, I'll post a full review of the film here, check back with Movies Rated Boom to see what we thought of it.
In the mean time allow me to neuralize you and make you remember that The BOOM Page and all its channels is the best blog out there right now. BOOM.

Can Will Smith Beat the Avengers?

This weekend we will get to see if Will Smith can do what Liam Neeson couldn't do, topple The Avengers!
Will the new MIB movie be able to unseat The Avengers from the top spot, I think that's going to be a yes. Why? Because the same fan base that made Avengers so great and successful are the ones who will run to see MIB3.

Last weekend Avengers brought in another 55 million dollars

Comic geeks know what we're doing and even die hard negative comic book guys are agreeing The Avengers is the best comic book movie of all time.

But with MIB and Battleship up against them, I think this is even a fight that this super group can't win.
