Borgnine on the Big Screen was Classic

His first one was in 1951, he played Bill Street in The Whistle at Eaton Falls but when he got the role of Sgt. "Fatso" in From Here to Eternity in 1953. From there he went on to actually even win an Oscar in 1955, imagine winning an Oscar four years after your first role, it was clear Borgnine had something.

For me there are seven movies of Borgnines that rank in my movies Rated BOOM. We'll work backwards in time going from newest to oldest.

21 Jump Street Comedy and Explosions.

Well not a lot of explosions, or at least not the ones you though you'd see, and that's part of the humor that comes with this updated version of the 80s hit 21 Jump Street.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum play police officers who get moved into the Jump Street program, a group of cops who look young and infiltrate high schools to stop the crime going on within. The two knew each other in High School, Tatum being the quintcential popular jock and Hill being the nerdy kid who didn't have too many friends. They meet up again at the police academy and realize that the two of them can learn from one another to be able to graduate from the academy.

Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter Bites, In a Good Way.

Movie review by Kenneith Alexander Wright Vazquez

Lawyer, husband, father, President and slayer of the undead. ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER is a kinetic, jarring and dynamically fast paced journey through a fictional unseen chapter in the life of "Honest Abe".

Director Timur Bekmambetov (Nightwatch, Daywatch, Wanted) brings his usual volatile and hyper visual style to everything. From hacking a tree to blistering pieces on one stroke, a wild and nearly cartoony chase through a stampede of wild horses to a fast and blurry smackdown with a vampire horde on top of a speeding locomotive. Timur just knows how to make any set piece beautiful and impossibly plausible. Even the vampires looked like ancient beastial and crone like monsters.

Snow White and The Huntstman its Hi(ghs) and Hos

A review of Snow White and the Huntsman currently in theaters

By Kenneth Alexander Wright Vazquez

‎"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all? SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN is not only the fairest but the most gorgeous fantasy film in resent years. The photography and production design is so beautiful and sumptuous to look at and evocative of genre films from the 80s such as WILLOW, KRULL, LABYRINTH and DRAGONSLAYER.

First time director Rupert Sanders took The Brothers Grim beloved classic and re-imagined it with a damsel in not so much distress turned into a hero for the people under the guidance of a tragic yet battle hardened huntsman. Every frame of this tale is alive with cinematic magic that makes the darkest of dungeons and most sinister of marshes come to elegant life.

Prometheus where Aliens are Hatched.

A review of the movie Prometheus by Kenneth Alexander Wright Vazquez

It doesn't take long for PROMETHEUS to quickly take the viewer back to the cinematic universe and genre defining narrative that director Ridley Scott help create. Immediately after the film opens it is quite clear that this movie is a return to norm and to science fiction with intellect.

Get Gone

I'll admit, I wasn't ready and waiting to see this movie, mainly because of its star, Amanda Seyfried, she had put out seven movies before this from 2009 to 2012, I felt the world was on Seyfried overload. From Dear John immediately followed by Letters to Juliet and then Red Riding Hood, it didn't seem like we could go a month without another Seyfried movie, and since those looked like sappy predictable love stories, I grouped Gone along with them.

I was wrong, Gone is a great thriller starring Seyfried and a group of actors that you think you might know, but can't really pin point where. Sebastian Stan is in it, he played Bucky Barnes in Captain America and more recently the Mad Hatter on the TV show Once Upon a Time.

Straw Dog Remake Takes to Long to Get Good.

Straw Dogs starring James Marsden, Kate Bosworth and Alexander Skarsgard came out in September of 2011, I watched it on demand via Time Warner Cable just the other night. This rated R thriller clocks in at nearly two hours and it takes about an hour and a half before it gets any type of scary.

Marsden and Bosworth play a married couple returning to her small town where she of course was the cheerleader who dated the quarterback, Skarsgard. They stay in her parents house to allow for documentary movie writer, Marsden to work on a script he's doing for a World War 2 movie.

Avengers Didn't Get Shot Down, They Stepped Aside

Men in Black 3
This weekend the geek world changed the proverbial channel as we took a break from seeing Avengers over and over again to make it be the largest movie of all time, and went and saw Men in Black 3. The MIB took in $203 million dollars this weekend world wide to move Marvel's premiere super hero team to slot #2. Something Battleship or Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows couldn't do.

Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin took in a small $70million here in the US in this third part to the Men in Black franchise. Other blog sites are stating that it took another comic book driven movie to topple the Avengers but true comic book fans know that is not the case. While yes Men in Black was a comic book before it was a movie, it was only 3 issues long and it was an independent book that wasn't really released wide.

The movie actually inspired more than the comic book did, a cartoon that ran for five years, more comic books based on the Smith and Jones characters, toys of course, soundtracks for the movie with songs specifically for the movie that became hits. Four different video games with the latest being in stores now and a fun ride at Universal Studios Florida.

Now with MIB in the number one slot its not a matter of it beating the Avengers, its just a matter of us comic geeks being ready to watch another movie. If you know a comic book fan don't ask them if they've seen The Avengers, ask them how many times they've seen it. Your follow up question can then be, are you going to see Men in Black? We'll say sure, that's most likely because with us comic fans our books come out monthly, so after a month of enjoying one part of our genre, we'll move on to the next issue. Men in Black is that for us, its our next issue.

To say the Avengers had an amazing run is an understatement, they set a new bar in movie history that may never be seen again and its not even over yet. But will the largest money making movie be nominated for any awards by others besides say Spike TV? Will The Avengers get some sort of Academy nod? Lord of the Rings did, it showed that a movie based off a book loved primarily by the geek community could be worthy of multiple academy awards. But will a true comic book movie be allowed to get there or is that award ceremony to far gone. There was a time when Disney films were nominated for Best Picture, but it seems even they have been pushed more towards only being in the animated film portion of the show and now only artsy films can be true contenders.

Regardless of any gold statue the public has spoken, and if The Avengers isn't acknowledged in a major award ceremony it just further shows how useless those awards are, they don't represent what the movie going community likes.

I have yet to see Men in Black three yet, but plan on seeing it this coming weekend, I'll post a full review of the film here, check back with Movies Rated Boom to see what we thought of it.
In the mean time allow me to neuralize you and make you remember that The BOOM Page and all its channels is the best blog out there right now. BOOM.

Can Will Smith Beat the Avengers?

This weekend we will get to see if Will Smith can do what Liam Neeson couldn't do, topple The Avengers!
Will the new MIB movie be able to unseat The Avengers from the top spot, I think that's going to be a yes. Why? Because the same fan base that made Avengers so great and successful are the ones who will run to see MIB3.

Last weekend Avengers brought in another 55 million dollars

Comic geeks know what we're doing and even die hard negative comic book guys are agreeing The Avengers is the best comic book movie of all time.

But with MIB and Battleship up against them, I think this is even a fight that this super group can't win.
