21 Jump Street Comedy and Explosions.

Well not a lot of explosions, or at least not the ones you though you'd see, and that's part of the humor that comes with this updated version of the 80s hit 21 Jump Street.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum play police officers who get moved into the Jump Street program, a group of cops who look young and infiltrate high schools to stop the crime going on within. The two knew each other in High School, Tatum being the quintcential popular jock and Hill being the nerdy kid who didn't have too many friends. They meet up again at the police academy and realize that the two of them can learn from one another to be able to graduate from the academy.

After their first bust as cops is a bust, their captain played by Nick Offerman, the loving Ron Swanson from the TV show Parks and Recreation, sends them off on assignment to 21 Jump Street. Their new captain Ice Cube full on admits he is the stereotypical angry black police captain who yells a lot. His initial speech to Hill and Tatum is funny because it goes into how they're recycling the Jump Street program from the 80s because the system can't come up with anything original. Keep in mind he's looking directly into the camera as he's talking and its unclear if this is script or he's breaking the 4th wall.

The movie then becomes about the two cops growing in their partnership and their new time in high school. Hill ends up being popular and Tatum actually ends up with the science geeks, the movie jokes how what made kids nerds back in the 80s and 90s is now considered cool in school, I was totally able to relate to this part of the movie.

Lots of laughs, some action, really funny high school drama played out with two guys who aren't supposed to be that age, watch for the car chase scene and when the two end up getting high on a new drug in order to infiltrate the dealer.

A great cast with Brie Larson(Scott Pilgrim) Dave Franco(Fright Night) Chris Parnell(SNL) and Rob Riggle(The Other Guys) as well as some awesome cameos, but I wont put any spoilers about that. This movie is a lot of fun and has some of the best dialogue and rapport with the entire cast, it definitely gets the BOOM approval.
